Infosys Sets an Example on Climate Action

In 2011, the Indian company Infosys made a voluntary commitment to become carbon neutral. Since then, it built a carbon neutral program based on energy efficiency to reduce emissions, renewable energy to avoid emissions, and carbon offsetting to account for any remaining emissions. The company become carbon neutral for the fiscal 2020, and is the first Indian corporate to win the UN Climate Action Award.

Infosys has some of the most energy efficient campuses in the world, and has reduced its per capita electricity consumption by over 55%. It is the first Indian signatory to the RE100 global campaign and has also invested in solar PV capacity. The company has successfully developed several community-based carbon offset projects, which focus on socio-economic development of rural communities and contribute to 11 UN SDGs. These projects not only address climate change, but benefit rural families.
