Dr. Himangshu Dutta is an accomplished Ecologist and Conservationist with extensive research experience in community-based research on ecological issues. He holds a PhD degree from Assam University, Silchar, with his thesis focused on “Man-animal conflict in the forest- and fringe villages of protected areas of Barak Valley, Assam.” His work involved personal interviews, participatory techniques, and engagement with native communities and stakeholders in 13 protected areas. He proposed solutions to human-wildlife conflict and conducted intensive socio-economic assessments.
With a Master’s degree in Environmental Science and a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology, Himangshu brings a strong academic background to his expertise in the field of ecology and environment. He has been recognized for his contributions as a Junior Scientist of the Year by the International Academy of Science and Research and has received a National Postdoctoral Fellowship from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.
Himangshu’s employment history includes roles as a Project Fellow at Assam University, Silchar where he researched on biodiversity conservation and as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute for Social and Economic Change, Bangalore, focusing on resource use and conservation in Manas National Park (World Heritage Site and Biosphere Reserve). He has also worked in the non-profit sector, contributing to socially conscious tea garden management. Himangshu’s teaching experience includes being a Lecturer at DHSK College, where he taught environmental studies to students pursuing diverse disciplines.
His extensive list of peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and popular articles demonstrates his expertise across a range of ecological and conservation topics such as climate change, biodiversity and so on. He has presented at numerous national and international conferences and has contributed as a reviewer for various reputable journals.
Himangshu has also undergone additional professional courses and attended workshops and training sessions related to environmental sciences, biodiversity research, GIS, and more.
